END OF YEAR REFLECTION

Throughout my time in this class, I feel like my writing has improved, and the way I approach it has changed. Other classes this semester have helped me too, but this class is where I feel I’ve put those skills to the test more often in a variety of media. It also got me thinking more about how creative writing really has a place in so many areas of the digital world, from games to VR and more. The biggest change to what I was planning on during the year, was with the original treatment and the game design project. I originally had the idea for Rule The Turf for the game design project, but not knowing if we’d need to expand later into programming it, I chose to do the Hippo one. I liked the Hippo one but really preferred the Rule The Turf more, which is why I switched back when it came time to do the original treatment. From there, I was able to go more in-depth and include diagrams and illustrations for it, and even add a fun Inklewriter interactive portion. I was inspired by m...

Treatment for Original Work: RULE THE TURF 22

Image
Thanks to my 6,000 word interactive story assignment, this was the second largest project I had. I decided to use the treatment of my original work to expand on the original idea I had for the game design project; Rule the Turf 22. It includes a lengthy design sheet, including screenshots of different features. I also made a presentation that I used to present the project that includes a fun Inklewriter section where the user can experience a situation they would see in-game. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1TxwUHllnk6wDtjcKxNNWWT-lEgVaCH2K5w8GI9Sah34/edit?usp=sharing

Story Effectiveness Questionnaire

This assignment was a questionnaire about the movie Paris, Texas . It was a very interesting movie to watch, and below you can see my full written reflection about the film.

Location Based Piece: "Super Max vs. Sir Lewis"

Using ARCGIS' story maps, I made my location based story on the 2021 Formula One title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. On each map in the story, I placed mark that were key locations in the grand prix, and added text and pictures about it. On different software, this could become a cool VR exhibit/experience, where you could experience the championship moments live. This type of thing could be possible with our current VR technology too. Here's the link: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/c44de02bdc5e41a18a5796366f99766e

LOCATION CLOSAT #6

  (L) Mount Vesuvius The famous mountain that destroyed Pompeii. Surrounded by trees on it’s side, and a relatively easier climb than other mountains. However, it still has small scale eruptions from time to time, so better time the visit well…

LOCATION CLOSAT #5

(O) A map A treasure map written in a foreign language. It has images and visible landmarks drawn on, but without knowing the language it’s too hard to read. It’s likely in sandscript, the person who picks it up would think.

LOCATION CLOSAT #4

  (C) Tour Guide A short man, roughly 5’ 10”. He has orange-brown hair and a light beard. He’s lively, with a pep in his step, and knows the area better than anyone else. He wears your stereotypical adventurer gear, which contains some food rations, water bottles, a map, compass, survival knife, tarp, a fire starter and flare. He even carries a carton of cigars that he plans to use if “things go bad.”

LOCATION CLOSAT #3

  (L) Yas Marina Circuit The Yas Marina Circuit that holds the F1 finale. A long track with empty grandstands now that it isn’t in use. Infield facilities including a lake exist as well. It’s calm and peaceful at the moment.

LOCATION CLOSAT #2

  (A) Heavy, Heavy Rain Rain starts to show in the area, pouring down hard. It makes it hard to see and do anything in. No hail, surprisingly no lighting, but god’s tears pour onto the earth en masse, soaking anything in it’s way.

LOCATION CLOSAT #1

(L) Peak of Mount Everest A long grueling climb has ended here. The top of Mount Everest. A cold, snowing, but it’s refreshing nonetheless. The tallest peak on planet earth brings great euphoria to those who completed the climb.

Game Design Assignment

Image
For this assignment, the objective was to make a game design sheet for a potential game. The game I made a sheet for is called "Ultimate Hippos." It's a fun, fps-shooter spin on the classic game "Hungry-Hungry Hippos" where the player roams around the map, feeding the hippos by shooting them with pellets!

Nonlinear News Story: Lockout Simulator

This was the hardest project of the year for me. I stupidly decided, "hey, why don't I make a 6,000 word interactive story?" Of course, I enjoyed making it and I'm very satisfied with how it turned out, but it certainly was a long story. You play the role as a player or owner in the MLB Lockouts, where your goal is to reach an agreement. You have different options and multiple different endings, good and bad. here's the link to try it yourself:  2022 MLB Lockout: Day Before Disaster by Taylor Stolworthy
